LAKESIDE NEUROLOGIC RESIDENT MURAL 2021 & 2024 | While working as a Residential Services Assistant for the diverse community within Lakeside Neurologic, a local rehabilitation facility for children and adults living with traumatic brain injuries, I challenged myself to actively engage and assist the residents with their day to day lives while incorporating fresh artistic creativity.
In an effort to inspire and challenge the residents, I organized and led the 2021 Lakeside Neurologic Resident Mural. Each participating resident was given a marked square on a long wall near the Vocational Building on campus to use as their 'canvas'. Each resident was tasked to showcase themselves and their creativity within their artwork. More importantly, to provide a unique remembrance of their time and impact at Lakeside Neurologic. Throughout my time in the Vocational Department, I found that each resident constantly challenged us to adapt and elevate our care to meet their needs and the needs of each future resident.
Ray Fitchette, Lakeside Neurologic's COO states the most memorable aspect of the project was "the enthusiasm generated by the project" and "the joy at the conclusion of a project enjoyed & well done!!"
Annette Sandoval, Lakeside Neurologic's Director of HR states the most impressive aspects of the mural project was "the personalization, motivation, and goal of encouraging residents to use creativity and talent!"
